Drywall Installation Guide
Sheet Sizes
Standard 4'×8' sheets work for most rooms. Use 4'×12' for walls taller than 8 feet to minimize seams. Ceilings typically use 4'×8' or 4'×12'.
Joint Compound
Estimate 0.053 lbs per sq ft for all three coats. A typical room needs 1-2 buckets (5-gallon) depending on size.
Fasteners
Use 1-1/4" drywall screws for 1/2" drywall. Space screws 12" on center for walls, 12" for ceilings. Estimate 1 lb per 5 sheets.
Hanging Tips
Hang ceiling sheets first, then walls. Install perpendicular to joists/studs. Stagger seams. Don't overtighten screws - dimple slightly without breaking paper.
