Paint Coverage Guide
Standard Coverage
Most paints cover about 350 square feet per gallon on smooth, primed surfaces. Textured walls or unpainted surfaces may require more paint.
Number of Coats
Two coats are typically recommended for best results. Dark colors or drastic color changes may require three coats.
Primer
Always use primer on new drywall, stained surfaces, or when making dramatic color changes. Primer typically covers 200-300 sq ft per gallon.
Buying Tips
It's better to buy slightly more paint than needed. Leftover paint is useful for touch-ups, and running out mid-project can be costly.
