Trim Installation Guide
Trim Types
Crown molding: ceiling/wall junction. Baseboard: floor/wall junction. Chair rail: 32-36" high on walls. Casing: around doors and windows (3 sides per opening).
Miter Cuts
Inside corners: 45° miter cuts on both pieces. Outside corners: 45° miter cuts outward. Crown molding requires compound miter cuts - use spring angle guide.
Scarf Joints
For long walls, join pieces with 45° scarf joints (overlapping angled cuts). More attractive than butt joints. Secure both pieces to studs for strength.
Installation Tips
Find studs and nail into them. Use brad nailer for clean finish. Fill nail holes with wood filler. Caulk gaps between trim and wall. Paint or stain before or after installation.
