Plant Spacing Guide
Why Spacing Matters
Proper spacing ensures plants get adequate sunlight, air circulation, and nutrients. Overcrowding leads to disease and reduced yields.
Common Spacing Recommendations
Lettuce: 6", Carrots: 3", Peppers: 12-18", Tomatoes: 18-24", Squash: 24-36", Corn: 12" (in blocks). Always check seed packets for specific varieties.
Square Foot Gardening
An efficient method dividing beds into 1-foot squares. Plant 16 small plants (lettuce), 9 medium (beets), 4 large (peppers), or 1 extra-large (tomato) per square.
Row vs. Grid Planting
Traditional row planting allows easier access and weeding. Grid or block planting maximizes space and can reduce weeds by shading soil.
